DEFIANCE, Ohio – Albion College was unable to score the most important points of the match Tuesday night as was defeated by Defiance College in three sets (26-24, 30-28, 25-20) in non-league volleyball action.
Defiance staved off two set points in the first. Albion led 24-22 on a Defiance service error, but the Yellow Jackets rallied to score the next four points.
A block by Kaytee Harvey and Jesse Hepner pushed Albion to a 24-23 lead and set point in the second. The Britons were again denied as Defiance scored two in a row and then the teams traded points until Jessi Davis and Delaney Monin scored on consecutive points to give Defiance the set.
Defiance scored three in a row to build a 23-19 lead in the third set as it pulled away to win the match.
Kelsey Gustafson and Kate Winter led the Albion attack with 11 kills apiece, while setter Grace VanDorn completed her fifth double-double of the season with 23 assists and 16 digs. Libero Jenna Khoury finished with 28 digs, six assists and three aces.
Albion, 7-5 on the year, returns home for a Friday match against Mount St. Joseph University. The first serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Kresge Gymnasium.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
