Women's Track & Field team makes indoor, outdoor transition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – It was a transitional day for the Albion College track & field program.

While Cassie Vince was completing the indoor season by with competition in the distance events in the NCAA Division III Championship, the rest of the team was competing outdoors for the first time in the Southern Invitational at Birmingham Southern College.

A junior from Amherst, Ohio, Vince stayed with the leaders for the opening laps of the 3,000 meters on Saturday. She was unable to keep up with the lead pack for the entire race and finished 14th in 9:58.60.

Vince ran in the 5,000 meters on Friday, achieving a time of 17:46.01.

In the outdoor meet, Allison Snyder set the winning time in the 5,000 meters, completing her race in 17:56.65.

Jumpers Kimberly Barber and Nia Thomas were leaders in the field events. Thomas was the runner-up in the triple jump and Barber was fourth in the long jump.

Layla Wilks, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association indoor track champion in the sprints, joined Barber, Chalara Sutton, and Emilee Kinney for third place in the 4x100 relay.

The Britons will return to action in a March 24 meet at Indiana Wesleyan University.
