Solano wins final career tennis match

ALBION, Mich. – Lauren Solano walked off the court a winner in her final collegiate match.

The Albion College senior from Trenton, Mich., scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Monica Davy at No. 1 singles as the Britons finished the women's tennis season with an 8-1 loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Saint Mary's College.

Solano finished the season with a 9-9 singles record. She was 7-8 playing at the top of the Britons singles lineup.

Saint Mary's won the other five singles matches in straight sets. Namara Swillum tried to push the Belles Elizabeth Preister in the second set before losing 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5 flight.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
