ALBION, Mich. – Grace Connolly and Estacia Martinez hit two-run homeruns in game two, but Albion College was not able to hold the lead as it absorbed a 9-6 loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College at Dempsey Field.
Olivet claimed the sweep of the softball doubleheader by defeating Albion, 10-1 in five innings, in game one.
Rebecca Rodriguez went 2-for-2 at the plate, including a second inning double to score Connolly.
Skyler Herman hit a RBI single and Martinez slugged her second homerun of the season as Albion surged to a 6-3 lead in the fourth.
Olivet displayed some power in its half of the fourth as Jazmin Hildebrand homered as part of a three-run uprising to forge a 6-6 tie.
Olivet added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to pull away for the victory.
Eryn VanderVlucht went 2-for-3 with a walk, RBI and a run scored for the Britons.
Albion will hit the road for a Thursday doubleheader at Trine University.
Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email email@example.com.
