Softball Britons Celebrate Home Opener

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College played its first softball games on its new Dempsey Field at the Davis Athletic Complex Wednesday, losing both ends of a non-league doubleheader against Defiance College by scores of 10-0 and 6-2.

Albion, now 6-12 overall, will turn its attention to its first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader of the season, set for 1 o'clock Saturday against Alma College at Dempsey Field.

Game One

Jackie Hartman hit a grand slam in the first inning and the Yellow Jackets were off and running. Hartman also lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, giving her five runs batted in for the game. Marisa Guyton and Megan Warren also drove in two runs apiece.

Angela Hoffsis and Madison Kortas picked up Albion's hits.

Game Two

Albion forged a 1-1 tie in the second when pitcher Brianna Charron helped her cause with a RBI single, scoring Julia Anderson.

Albion trailed 4-2 in the fifth when Madison McConnell drew a bases loaded walk.

Hoffsis and Savannah Spring produced two hits apiece.
