Luce Collects Two Extra-Base Hits

LIVONIA, Mich. – Albion College Head Coach Leigh Ann LaFave stressed to her team the importance of retiring the first batter of every inning.

Madonna University struck for a big inning in each game as it swept a non-league softball doubleheader from the Britons by scores of 7-1 and 8-0.

Game One

Julia Cavagnini drew a walk to leadoff the first and Emma Cook followed with a homerun as Madonna scored five times. Nicky Salloum also drove in two runs with a triple.

Elena Luce produced Albion's run when she slugged a shot over the left field fence in the fourth. It was her first career homerun.

Lauren Oppliger came off the bench to produce Albion's other hit, a single to leadoff the sixth.

Game Two

Madonna's first seven batters reached in the second, and the Crusaders scored eight runs. Bri Giordano drove in three runs during the inning, slugging a two-run homerun and lifting a sacrifice fly. Brenna Keethler also hit a two-run double.

Luce and Sarah Hacker hit doubles for the Britons.

On Deck

Albion is scheduled to travel to Alma College on Friday for its first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader of the season.
