Seventh-Inning Rally Fizzles

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Albion College was stung by a one run loss for the second time in as many days Monday. The Britons rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but they stranded the winning run on second base in a 5-4 setback to Hiram College.

The first four hitters in the Albion lineup – Elena Luce, Julia Anderson, Monica Brugnoni and Megan LaCavera – combined to hit 8-for-16. LaCavera had a pair of RBI singles and Brugnoni slugged a RBI double in the seventh.

Kaitlyn Hotchkin went 3-for-4 with a RBI single in the seventh and Delaney Probst collected two hits.

After a scoreless first, Janie Linger powered Hiram to the lead with a two-run homerun in the second. The Terriers added a run in the third when Dana Perrotta scored on Miranda Wright's groundout. Perrotta figured in the scoring in the fifth when she doubled home a run and scored on a single by Jessica Wahl.

Albion fell to Muskingum University, 8-2, earlier on Monday.

Albion has four games remaining on its spring break schedule. The Britons have Wednesday games against Illinois College and Beloit College and Thursday games against Marietta College and Carroll University.
