The Briton western team maintained their regional lead in the last regular season meet of 2019-2020, taking reserve champion in the morning half of the double-header hosted at the Held Equestrian Center and scoring a team victory in the afternoon.
Leading the charge were Open Level riders Marty Cash (Germantown, WI/Germantown) and Nikita Mehaney (Three Rivers/Three Rivers), who took three of the four individual high point awards for reining and horsemanship. In the morning show, Mehaney edged Cash for individual champion after a ride off; in the afternoon, Cash surged back for the win.
Other strong showings for the Brits came from sophomore Jordan Forney (Union Mills, IN/LaPorte), who came second in the morning show and first in the afternoon in Level II Horsemanship, and first-year Robert Warwick (Adrian/Madison), who won both of his Level I Horsemanship classes. Natalie Stolyarov (Ann Arbor/Skyline) put points on the board in the morning with a win in Level II Horsemanship, while Lacey White (Battle Creek/Kellogg CC) and Janell Horner (Stockbridge/Stockbridge) dominated both splits of Rookie B Horsemanship in the afternoon.
Post-season begins for the Briton western riders on February 22 with the IHSA Regional Show hosted at the Held Equestrian Center. In addition to the team competition, Albion has ten individual riders qualified in their respective divisions.
