Vince cruises past MIAA cross country field

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Cassie Vince achieved her place in Albion College women's cross country history on Saturday.

She became the first Albion woman to finish as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Most Valuable Runner after being the first runner to cross the finish line in the MIAA Cross Country Championship contested at the Eastern Hills Golf Club.

The Amherst, Ohio, native, completed the 6K course in 21:29.7, nearly 48 seconds ahead of runner-up Emily Hamilton representing Hope College.

Prior to today, Sarah Hall set the highest finish by an Albion woman in the MIAA Championship. Hall finished second in the 1983 meet.

Albion finished fourth in the team standings with a a total of 119.

Leaha Sinneave achieved all-MIAA second team status as the 15th individual to finish, setting a season-best time of 23:30.3.

Completing Albion's top five were Hannah Adams (46th, 25:17.7), Kendra Cook (52nd, 25:33.8) and Peyton Brooks (63rd, 25:59.9).

Next up for the Albion runners is the NCAA Division III Regional Championship. That meet is scheduled for Nov. 10 in Shelbyville, Ind.
