First-year runner makes impressive debut

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Darby Kellogg made an impressive Albion College debut Saturday, finishing as the second runner to cross the finish line as the women's cross country team opened the season in the Sodexo Grizzly Invitational.

Kellogg completed the 6K course in 22:57.

"Coach Derick Lawrence said to stay conservative for the first mile so I went out not too hard but not too easy," Kellogg said.

Rachel House, a senior from Heidelberg University, was the first runner to reach the finish line (22:39).

Leaha Sinnaeve, a senior for the Britons, finished ninth (24:46), and that helped Albion finish third in the field that featured some of the top teams from the Great Lakes region. The University of Mount Union was first with a total of 60, followed by Oberlin College (74) and Albion (83).

First-year runners Jessica Pekrul (25:27) and Peyton Brooks (26:13) finished among the top 27 runners.

Hannah Adams, a sophomore, completed Albion's top five (26:15), and she was closely followed by Kendra Cook (26:20).

Next up for the Britons is a Sept. 8 meet hosted by the University of Detroit Mercy in Northville, Mich.
