Britons make quick work of Anderson

ALBION, Mich. – It took Albion College just 75 minutes to dispatch Anderson University 25-14, 25-21, 25-20 in a non-league volleyball match on a steamy night inside Kresge Gymnasium.

Kelsey Gustafson served up three aces as Albion scored seven in a row to seize control of the first set. The Britons hit .400 with 15 kills and just one error as they cruised to the early lead in the match.

Albion's hitting dipped to .286 (11-3-28) and .278 (15-5-36) in the final two sets, but Albion was able to pass the ball efficiently to hold off Anderson.

Gustafson completed her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs. She served up four aces and committed just one error while receiving 14 serves.

Chloe Webber (seven kills, three blocks, two aces), Kate Winter (seven kills), Alexa Hitchko (six kills, two blocks), Jesse Hepner (four kills, one block) and Brielle Brown (three kills, one block) also had effective nights at the net.

Setters Grace VanDorn and Ava Smith got involved in the offense by combining for three kills while dishing out 29 of the team's 39 assists.

Albion, 5-2 on the season, will travel to Earlham College for four matches on Friday and Saturday.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
