Big Brit Energy comes to Harrington Elementary on the first day of school

Big Brit Energy is not confined to the Albion College campus.

The Briton football, men's soccer and volleyball teams took a break from training camp – and they were joined by representatives from the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the men's basketball and swimming & diving teams – to welcome students to Harrington Elementary on the first day of school.

The men's soccer team brought its drum to the event, leading the Britons to break out in song as the children walked through a gauntlet of community members wishing them well during the school year.

"It made me emotional to see all the kids faces as we brightened their day," Richelle Hawkins, one of three seniors on the Briton volleyball squad, said.

Football quarterback Kyle Thomas added, "Coach (Dustin) Beurer has been preaching The Albion Way and the importance of giving back to the community. It was cool seeing the kids with their backpacks and it was nice to see them smile on the first day of school."

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
