Albion stopped in three close sets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Albion College stood toe-to-toe with the nation's top ranked team Friday night. Calvin College won the important points to earn a 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 victory in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament semifinal match.

Albion raised its hitting percentage in each set, ranging from -.043 with six kills and eight errors in 46 attempts in the first set to .189 (11-4-37) in the third.

Middle blocker Taylor Rosenthal, an all-MIAA first team pick, terminated nine points while hitting .261. She was one of five Albion student-athletes to complete her collegiate career. She finishes second on Albion's all-time list for blocks (252) and third on the list for kills (1,062).

Setter Grace VanDorn, an all-MIAA second team pick for the second time in as many years, dished out 23 assists to move her career total to 2,002. She fell a dig shy of achieving what would have been her 17th double-double of the season.

Monica Shuk, an all-MIAA first team pick at libero, collected 15 digs to finish her career with an Albion all-time record of 2,174.

Marie Pregenzer, a middle blocker who was an all-MIAA second team pick, assisted on three blocks and served up a pair of aces. She finished her career with 232 blocks (third all-time at Albion) and 103 aces (fifth all-time at Albion).

Albion finished the season with a 17-12 overall record. It was the most wins in a season since Albion achieved a 17-13 record in 2001.
