Rosenthal reaches career milestone

ALBION, Mich. – Marie Pregenzer and Kate Winter both hit .500 while reaching double figures in kills as Albion College made quick work of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College (25-20, 25-11, 25-21) at Kresge Gymnasium Tuesday night.

In the process, Taylor Rosenthal collected eight kills to become the third player in Albion history to reach 1,000 in a career.

A ball handling error by the Kalamazoo setter and a kill by Marie Pregenzer helped Albion build a 21-17 lead in the first set. Winter knocked down a kill and Kelsey Gustafson served an ace as Albion closed out the set.

Gustafson, Pregenzer and Winter produced two kills apiece as Albion scored the first eight points of the second set. Albion hit .438 (16-2-32) in the set to build a 2-0 lead in the match.

Rosenthal terminated three points as Albion seized a 7-2 lead in the third set. Kalamazoo would not go away, outscoring Albion 9-3 to cut the Briton lead to 21-19. Rosenthal and Pregenzer tallied kills after an Albion timeout as the Britons took back the momentum. Pregenzer terminated the final two points of the match.

Setters Grace VanDorn and Ava Smith combined to dish out 37 assists, while libero Monica Shuk and Gustafson both finished with double figures in digs.

Albion, 13-10 overall and 4-3 against MIAA rivals, will play three matches at home Friday and Saturday. The action begins Friday at 5:30 when the Britons take the court against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
