Volleyball splits Friday non-league matches

OBERLIN, Ohio – Middle blocker Taylor Rosenthal collected 19 kills (while hitting .348) and six blocks, outside hitter Kelsey Gustafson also knocked down 19 kills and setter Grace VanDorn completed a double-double in both matches as Albion College gained a split of its Friday night non-league matches.

Albion defeated John Carroll (25-23, 25-20, 25-23)

Albion hit .338 (32-7-74) over the final two sets to gain the victory in three sets.

Trailing 16-11 in the third set, Albion scored four in a row to close the deficit to a single point. The score was tied at 17, 18, and 20. Two John Carroll attack errors played a role in Albion's three-point run as the Britons secured a 22-20 lead. Kate Winter's kill moved Albion to match point and it ended on a John Carroll hitting error.

Kate Winter hit .400 or better in a match for the third time this season when she produced 12 kills against one error in 27 attacks.

Taylor Rosenthal chipped in with 10 kills (while hitting .429) and four blocks.

VanDorn rolled up 36 assists and 11 digs.

Oberlin defeated Albion (25-20, 25-18, 19-25, 27-25)

Oberlin scored seven of the first eight points of the fourth set and it held on to hold off Albion.

Shelby Palmer terminated a pair of points as Albion scored five in a row to cut Oberlin's lead to 15-14 in the fourth set. Gustafson's kill put Albon in front, 21-18, but Oberlin rallied to score the next three. Oberlin finished the match with a service ace.

Gustafson knocked down a season-high 13 kills and she added a career-high 12 digs to complete her first career double-double. VanDorn's double-double was 33 assists and 10 digs.

Of Note

VanDorn sits in fourth place on Albion's all-time assists list with 1,724.

Rosenthal is 25 kills shy of becoming the third Briton to reach the 1,000 milestone in a career.
