Volleyball team drops pair of five-set matches

HIRAM, Ohio – Marie Pregenzer racked up 25 kills while hitting .323 and Taylor Rosenthal collected 20 kills while hitting .310 as the Albion College volleyball team lost a pair of five-set matches on Saturday.

Washington & Jefferson, Pa. d. Albion 26-28, 25-16, 27-29, 25-18, 15-9

Kate Winter terminated set point to give Albion a 2-1 lead in the match, but it gave away the momentum when the Presidents started the fourth set on a 6-0 run.

Jenna Khoury produced a kill as Albion led 18-16 in the fourth set, but Washington & Jefferson scored nine in a row to draw even in the match.

Kate Winter led Albion with 13 kills, Rosenthal had 12, Kayla O'Malley had a season-high 11 and Chloe Webber completed a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.

Hiram d. Albion (25-22, 25-13, 18-25, 23-25, 15-12)

Down by two sets in the match, Albion held Hiram to .068 hitting in the third set and it committed just two hitting errors in the fourth.

Webber completed another double-double with 11 kills and 20 digs and Winter, who had 10 kills, finished a dig shy of a double-double.

Albion travels to Notre Dame, Ind., Tuesday for its first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association match. The Britons will take the court against Saint Mary's College at 7 p.m.
