Rosenthal reaches career milestone in volleyball win

ALBION, Mich. – Taylor Rosenthal collected a season-high 13 kills and she reached a career milestone as Albion College celebrated playing at home for the first time this season with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 non-league victory over Defiance College.

A senior from Vicksburg, Mich., Rosenthal joined setter Grace VanDorn on a block in the first set, giving her 200 for her Albion career. Rosenthal later assisted on two more blocks and she joins Alexis Brumm, Keri Slane and Stephanie Thurner as the only Britons with at least 200 career blocks.

The Britons used Rosenthal to expose Defiance's weakness in the middle of the floor. She hit .550 with just two errors in 20 attacks.

Kelsey Gustafson also set a season-high in kills with 10.

VanDorn fell a dig shy of a double-double, finishing with 36 assists and nine digs.

With Monica Shuk serving in the first set, Albion scored four in a row to build a 19-12 lead and the Britons seized the early lead in the match.

Three Defiance attack errors and a Marie Pregenzer ace helped Albion rip off six points in a row to gain control of the second set.

Albion held a big lead late in the third set and held on to clinch the match.

Albion (2-2 overall) travels to Holand, Mich., for Friday and Saturday matches in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association preview event.
