VanDorn Inches Closer To Single-Season Assists Record

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College played its scrappy game Saturday afternoon, but it did not have the consistency to hold off Hope College.

Hope won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association volleyball match in four sets (25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21).

Serving with a 22-19 lead in the second set, Albion was unable to put the serve in play. Hope went on to rip off the next five points to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Marie Pregenzer and Kate Winter terminated two points each and Pregenzer served an ace as Albion won four of six points to win the third set.

Taylor Rosenthal led Albion with 13 kills and three blocks. Pregenzer added 10 kills, three blocks and three aces.

Grace VanDorn completed her 21st double-double of the season with 38 assists and 12 digs. The first-year setter is up to 1,079 assists, leaving her seven shy of the single-season school record.

Despite the loss, Albion (14-14 overall, 8-8 MIAA) gained a berth in the MIAA Tournament. The Britons will travel to Grand Rapids for a Nov. 3 match against regular season champion Calvin College. The first serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
