Volleyball Serves Up Saturday Victories

CHICAGO – Albion College hit .271 as it gained non-league volleyball victories over North Park University and the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Kelsey Gustafson knocked down a team-high 21 kills while hitting .375. Taylor Rosenthal and Kate Winter added 18 kills apiece, Kaitlyn Gilchrist contributed 17 kills and five service aces and Marie Pregenzer finished the day with 15 kills, five blocks and three service aces.

Albion d. North Park (25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23)

Albion scored consecutive points on a North Park attack error and a Gilchrist kill to seize a 24-22 lead in the fourth set and the Britons held on for the victory.

The Britons featured a balanced attack with four in double figures in kills. Gustafson finished with 13 kills and she added five digs. Winter added 12 kills, Pregenzer contributed 11 kills and three blocks and Rosenthal knocked down 10 kills.

Albion d. Illinois Tech (25-12, 25-19, 25-14)

Rachel Zawodny served up seven aces, an Albion record for a three set match in the 25-point format.

The Britons served up 15 aces in the match. Gilchrist and Pregenzer added three aces apiece.

Gilchrist finished with a .526 hitting percentage with 11 kills against one error in 19 attacks.

Albion, now 10-7 overall, hits the road for Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association matches at Hope College (Tuesday, Oct. 3) and Trine University (Saturday, Oct. 7).
