Albion College first-year setter Grace VanDorn has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball after helping the Britons turn back league rivals Saint Mary's College and Alma College in five sets and Kalamazoo College in four sets last week.
The North Aurora, Ill., native achieved a double-double in all three matches, finishing the week with 145 assists and 56 digs. Her 49 assists against Kalamazoo were fourth-most by an Albion setter in a four set match. She dished out 52 assists and added three service aces in the victory over Saint Mary's.
"Grace has grown since she started her career at Albion in August," Briton Head Coach Kristin de St. Aubin said. "She has done a great job running a fast tempo offense and adjusting to the speed of the college game. Her award this week is a full team effort with our passers and attackers also performing well."
In statistics for NCAA Division III setters through Sunday, VanDorn is 16th with 547 assists and 39th with an average of 9.77 digs per set.
Albion, winners of five in a row to surge to 8-6 overall and 4-2 against MIAA rivals, has a Wednesday match against sixth-ranked Calvin College in Grand Rapids.
VanDorn will have an opportunity to showcase her skills closer to home this weekend, when the Britons travel to the Illinois Institute of Technology for Saturday matches against North Park University and the Scarlet Hawks.
