Nine Britons gain all-region awards in track & field

Nine Albion College track & field athletes representing six events were awarded all-Great Lakes region status by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following the conclusion of the Division III regular outdoor season.

The top five individuals in each event earned all-region distinction, in addition to each of the members of a relay in the top three.

Cassie Vince, an All-American in cross country and indoor track & field during the 2018-2019 academic year, boasts the top time on the Division III performance list in the 10,000 meters this season. The senior from Amherst, Ohio, completed her March 29 race in Raleigh, N.C., in 34:26.36.

Cianna Brown, Alexis McGinley, Chalara Sutton and Layla Wilks represent Albion in the women's 4x100 relay. They own the top time in the region, achieving an Albion-record time of 47.50 seconds in Delaware, Ohio last Thursday.

Albion had four athletes – Kejuan Frazier, Jephte Jean-Claude, Trevor Knowles, and ShaQuoria Thompson – achieve all-region status in field events.

Frazier achieved the third-longest shot put in the region (53' 6 ½") in May.

Jean-Claude tied for fourth in the region in the triple jump when he sailed 47' ¼' to finish second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship.

Knowles sailed 22' 9 ¼" to finish second in the long jump competition during the MIAA Championship. That placed him fifth in the region for the season.

Thompson was third in the region in the discus throw. She achieved her best throw of the season – 142' 1" – during a qualifying meet for the NCAA Division III Championships in May.

Frazier, Vince and the women's 4x100 relay are scheduled to represent Albion in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships which run from Thursday through Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
