School records fall in opening track meet of the season

TIFFIN, Ohio – Layla Wilks achieved a first place finish in the 200-meter dash as Albion College traveled to Tiffin University for its first indoor track & field competition of the season.

The field included student-athletes from Division I Oakland University and Division II teams Davenport University, Tiffin and Ashland University.

Wilks completed the 200 in 25.97 seconds for a three-tenths of a second victory over Raquel Warner from Otterbein University. Wilks also finished eighth in the 60 meters with a school-record time of 7.86 meters.

Cassie Vince, fresh off an All-America performance in cross country, started the track season with a school record performance in the 800 meters (2:18.61)

Also finishing in the top 10 in their respective events for Albion:

  • Cianna Brown was ninth in the 400 meters (1:05.14)
  • The 4x400 relay team finished fourth. Kimberly Barber set a good leadoff time and she was followed by Brown, Cedria Grant and Wilks. The Britons finished in 4:24.91
  • Barber was 10th in the long jump (16" 7")
  • ShaQuoria Thompson threw the shot put 39' 9 ¼", good for 10th place

Albion's next meet is the Dr. William Taraschke Classic. The meet is scheduled for Jan. 26 in Berea, Ohio.
