Distance runner Allison Snyder and Cassie Vince, jumper Nia Thomas and sprinter Layla Wilks represented Albion College on the list of all-Great Lakes Region performers for the outdoor track & field season. The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association made the announcement Monday.
The top five individuals in each event earned the award.
Vince, a junior from Amherst, Ohio, and Snyder, a Jackson County Western High School product who received her degree in biology earlier this month, both achieved all-region status in the 10,000 meters. Vince set the top time in the region and qualified to run in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a run of 35:10.58 at Bucknell University in April. Snyder set her best time of the season (36:49.42) at Bucknell.
Vince also gained all-region status in the 5,000 meters. She set the third-fastest time in the region with a school-record run (17:11.72) in Naperville, Ill., two weeks ago.
Thomas, a junior from Honolulu, Hawaii, achieved the second-best performance in the region in the triple jump when she sailed 11.45 meters, the equivalent of 37' 6 ¾" at the Southern Invitational in March.
A first-year student from Chicago, Ill., Wilks was fourth in the region in the 100 meters. She raced to the finish line in 12.33 seconds in winning the event in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship.
