ADRIAN, Mich. – Competing in the sunshine and warmer temperatures, Albion College track & field athletes achieved a number of good performances in the Don Kleinow Invitational.
Luz Brenda Andre Jurado got things kicked off with a college personal record. Jessica Johnson and Abby Voglewede had great days throwing. Voglewede set a personal record in the hammer and Johnson set a personal record with the second-best throw in Albion College history.
In the jumps Hannah Almhiemid set a personal record in the high jump. Set also set a personal record in the 100 hurdles. Kimberly Barber tied the school record in the LJ (18' 4 ¼") and set a personal record in the 200. Erika Coleman continued her good jumping in the long jump and set a personal record in the 100 meters. Mega Winkler set Albion's 10th-best performances all-time in the triple jump and 400 hurdles.
On the track Layla Wilks, Emilee Kinney and Coleman all made the finals in the 100. Barber and Emily Kinser set personal records in the 200. In the 400, Allison Butler and Tyra Thomas-Spratley set personal records. T'Ana Smith ran a season's best in the 100 hurdles. In the 800 Alicia Medrano ran a season's best in the 800 and Rachel Holt set a personal record in the 1500.
All three relay teams ran top 10 performances. In the 4x100 the A & B teams both reached the finish line in less than 50 seconds. With the A team (Coleman, Wilks, Barber, and Kinney) running the 2nd best all time time and the B team (Kinser, Butler, Thomas-Spratley, and Chalara Sutton) running the 4th best time in school history. The 4x400 (Kinser, Thomas-Spratley, Medrano, Butler) completed a great day finishing second with the second best time in school history.
A few distance runners will compete at Hillsdale College Thursday, but next week is prep for MIAA Championships for most of the team.
