Early results from the Polar Bear Invitational

MARION, Ind. – Kimberly Barber and Nia Thomas finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump as Albion College track & field athletes competed for the first time since spring break in the Polar Bear Invitational.

Barber sailed 5.30 meters, the equivalent of 17' 4 ¾". Thomas achieved a best jump of 5.24 meters (17' 2 ¼").

Thomas also finished first in the triple jump and Jessica Johnson achieved a personal record in the shot put.

Barber joined Layla Wilks, Chalara Sutton, and Emilee Kinney for first place in the 4x100 relay. The Britons finished in 49.81 seconds, just one hundredth of a second ahead of Olivet Nazarene.

Coach Lance Coleman said it was a good day for Albion in the sprints. Layla Wilks was second in the 100 and fifth in the 200. Barber was fifth in the 100, followed by Emilee Kinney in eighth. Allison Butler was seventh in the 200.

Albion will send a group of distance runners to Saint Louis, Mo., next weekend for the Washington University Invitational.
