School records fall in women's track & field win

DEFIANCE, Ohio — First-year student-athlete Layla Wilks took a first-place win with a school record performance in the 60-meter dash during as the Albion College track & field was the high point team in an invitational meet at Defiance College. Her time was 8.04 seconds. Junior Kim Barber, and first-years Erika Coleman and Chalara Sutton were close behind, placing fourth, fifth and eighth, respectively. 

Wilks, Sutton, Barber, and junior Tyra Thomas-Spratley came back for a 1:46.67 school record in the 4x200 relay, placing first.

Wilks and Sutton continued their scoring streak in the 200 meter dash with a 1-2 finish. Across the field, Barber and junior Nia Thomas went first and third in the long jump.

Junior Jessica Johnson took the shotput title, with a throw of 11.73 meters (38' 6"), and eighth in the weight throw. First-year Luz Brenda Andrade Jurado improved her personal record by nearly two meters in the weight throw for a 9.02 meter mark.

In distance events, junior Allison Snyder and first-year Hannah Adams took first and fourth, with 5:27 and 5:47 finishes. First-year runners Rachel Holt and Kasmyn VanMaanen finished sixth and seventh in the 3,000 meters.

The Britons, who have placed first in their last two competitions, return to competition Feb. 3 at the Joe Banks Invitational at Ohio Northern University.
