Morrison, Shaw Represent Albion On USTFCCCA's List Of All-Academic Individuals

May graduates and NCAA Division III Championship qualifiers Angela Morrison and Jessica Shaw represented Albion College as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its Division III list of All-Academic Individuals for the 2016-17 track & field seasons.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
  • Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

Morrison, a competitor in the multi event disciplines (indoor pentathlon and heptathlon) in the 2017 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, graduated magna cum laude with departmental honors in mathematics. She also completed a minor in economics.

The first Albion athlete to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship, Morrison was a Westland, Mich., product who prepped at Lutheran Westland High School. She gained all-region status from the USTFCCCA when she scored 3,296 points in the indoor pentathlon in a March 3 meet at Ohio Northern University. She went on to be the second-leading scorer in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field Championship, finishing second in the triple jump at 34/ 5 ½", third in the high jump (5' ¼") and 60-meter hurdles (9.42) and sixth in the 200 meters (27.45 seconds) and 400 (school record 1:01.93. She qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship by achieving a school-record 4,650 points in the May 17-18 heptathlon at North Central College.

A distance runner from Allegan, Mich., Shaw graduated cum laude with a major in psychological science. A cell and molecular biology minor, she concentrated in Albion's Institute for Healthcare Professions.

She qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship and achieved USTFCCCA all-region status when she set a time of 36:09.91 in the 10,000 meters at an April meet hosted by Bucknell University. She went on to achieve all-MIAA status by winning the league title in the event, finishing her race in MIAA Championships in 37:30.84.

Shaw also gained all-region status in the 5,000 meters, setting the region's fifth-fastest time – 17:19.67 – at a meet hosted by Washington (Mo.) University in late March.
