Morrison Completes NCAA Heptathlon Competition, Collegiate Career

GENEVA, Ohio – Angela Morrison, an Albion College senior from Westland, Mich., completed her collegiate track & field career Friday with an 11th place finish in the heptathlon competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Morrison's 4,522 total was 52 points shy of Alison Rich, a Hope College junior, who finished eighth, leaving her just out of All-America status.

Morrison started the day tied for seventh, and she held sole possession of seventh place after starting Friday action sailing 17' 2 ¼" in the long jump. She fell to 13th place after her javelin throw sailed 79' 8", but moved up to 11th by completing the 800 meters in 2:22.47.

Morrison qualified for the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships in her senior year. She graduates with the school record total in the heptathlon.

"Angela had solid performances in all three events," Albion Head Coach Lance Coleman said, noting she turned in the second-best long jump and 800 meter performance of her career and her season best in the javelin. "Her competitors performed well. Angela gave it her all and I'm so proud of her.

"Angela and Jessica Shaw (who ran in the 10,000 meters on Thursday) depart Albion owning 13 school track & field records (indoor and outdoor). They have set a high bar for those who follow," Coleman added.

"They represented Albion College and our program well," Coleman finished. "Angela, Jessica and the other seniors are leaving the women's program in a much better place than when they arrived."
