Britons Battle Conditions, Top Competition In NCAA Track Championship

GENEVA, Ohio – Boosted by the second-best high jump in Albion College women's track & field history, senior Angela Morrison is tied for seventh after the first day of the heptathlon competition in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Morrison had great energy coming just a week after qualifying for the meet with a school record score of 4,650 in Naperville, Ill.

She was successful on her third attempts at 1.61 and 1.64 meters in the high jump. The 5' 4 ½" clearance was a personal best for the product of Lutheran Westland High School.

"I'm extremely happy with Angela's performance," Head Coach Lance Coleman said. "She battled difficult weather conditions and 21 great athletes."

Morrison set times of 15.68 in the 100-meter hurdles and 26.55 in the 200 and she achieved a distance of 28' 9 ¾" in the shot put.

The heptathlon competition continues Friday with the long jump, javelin throw and 800 meters.

Jessica Shaw, a senior from Allegan, Mich., ran her final race as a Briton, setting a time of 37:37.83. She leaves as Albion's only cross country All-American and she was a five-time NCAA Championship qualifier (reaching the cross country championships three times and the track meet twice).

"Though the race did not end the way we hoped it showed the toughness and dedication she has competed with throughout her career," Coleman said.
