Morrison Climbs D-III List In Heptathlon

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Angela Morrison vaulted into sixth place on the Division III list in the heptathlon Thursday, all but assuring her of a place in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship next weekend.

Competing in the Gregory Qualifying Meet at North Central College, the senior from Westland, Mich., achieved a personal and school record total of 4,650. She improved on the 4,349 total she set at Indiana Wesleyan in mid-April.

Morrison boosted her score Wednesday when she cleared the high jump at 5' 3 3/4". That was a personal record for Morrison and it was the second-best jump in Albion history.

She saved her best for last Wednesday, setting a personal record and the second-best time in school history when she finished the 200 in 25.81 seconds.

In other Wednesday events, Morrison completed the 100 hurdles in 15.32 seconds and she sent the shot put 8.8 meters, the equivalent of 28' 10 1/2".

Morrison added two more personal records Thursday, sailing 17' 8 1/4" in the long jump and completing the 800 meters in 2:22.38. She also threw the javelin 79' 3".

Morrison was not the only Briton achieving a personal record at North Central. Rayshawn Robinson, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion in the javelin throw, continues to throw farther. This time, he sent the javelin 158' 6".

In men's jumping events, Jephte Jean-Claude sailed 43' 7 1/4" in the triple jump and Richard Annorat achieved 21' 4" in the long jump.

Back on the track, T'Ana Smith set a time of 15.91 seconds in the women's 100 hurdles.
