Spectacular Jumping

Sophomores T'Ana Smith and Nia Thomas were spectacular in the jumping events as Albion College track & field athletes competed in the Aquinas Open Friday night.

In just her second meet in the triple jump, Smith achieved a personal record of 34' 9" to fly to first place. It was the third-longest jump in Albion women's track & field history.

Coach Lance Coleman said Thomas had one of the best series he's ever seen by an Albion female in the long jump. She reached 17' 8", the second-longest jump in Albion history, to finish second in the event.

First-year thrower Ikpemesi Ogundare earned second place in the shot put. She reached 35' 10 ½" on her fourth attempt.

Coleman provided the following notes from the athletes on the track:

Leaha Sinnaeve continued her great running in the 3000 meters.

Alicia Medrano ran well in the 800 meters and 4x400 relay.

Emilee Kinney had a great day placing in both sprints and running a great leg on the 4x400 relay.

Emily Kinser and Alyssa Barnett ran great in the 200 meters and on the 4x400 relay.

Maicey Peterson had her usual steady day in the 60 hurdles.

Albion also sent a select group of distance runners to the Big Meet at Grand Valley State University. Allison Snyder achieved a personal record of 18:34.54 in the 5,000 meters.

Albion will travel to Hillsdale College next Saturday for a tune up meet prior to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Championship on Feb. 25.
