Women's Tennis scores win over MIAA rival

ALBION,Mich. – Madeline Samra and Namara Swillum won tiebreakers to decide their singles matches as Albion College pulled away for an 8-1 victory over Olivet College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's tennis action on Tuesday.

Swillum held off Jordin Ellens, 10-8, in the tiebreaker to earn the point for the No. 6 singles match.

Samara outscored Alex Lesko, 10-2, in the breaker to gain the victory in the No. 5 singles match.

Lauren Solano, Marceline Redick and Saige Jost won their singles matches in straight sets.

Albion seized the early 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles matches. Solano and Kathryn Valade were 8-2 winners at No. 1, Redick and Samra were 8-2 winners at No. 2 and Jost and Swillum were 8-3 winners at No. 3.

Albion will complete the week with a Friday match at Hope College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
