Women's Tennis Pulls Out Dramatic Victory

ADRIAN, Mich. – Olivia Conover fought off four match points to win the second set and won the third set, 7-5, to secure the point at No. 3 singles, and that propelled Albion College to a 5-4 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College in women's tennis.

Conover's win capped the Britons dramatic comeback.

"We were down 2-1 after doubles, then lost two singles matches to go down 4-1 in the match," Albion Coach Kacie Zuck said. "Lauren Rasmussen came back at won in a full third set (at No. 1 singles), and Chrissy Gauss came back and won in a full third set (at No. 4 singles)."

Conover and Lauren Solano secured Albion's doubles point, winning the second flight by an 8-2 score.

Solano picked up Albion's only singles victory in straight sets. Playing at No. 2 in the lineup, she defeated Renae Almasy by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.

Rasmussen, Conover and Gauss all lost the first sets of their respective matches. Rasmussen eventually pulled out a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-2 victory over Amber Laginess. Gauss defeated Victoria Watson 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Conover ended the match with a 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 victory.

Now 5-7 overall and 2-0 against MIAA rivals, Albion's next match is a 4 o'clock Thursday home date against Olivet College.
