Close Matches Go Albion's Way

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Albion College defeated Heidelberg University, 8-1, in a non-league women's tennis match Sunday afternoon, but the final score was not indicative of the individual matches.

Tiebreakers decided three of the six singles matches. Olivia Conover, playing at No. 3 in the lineup, rallied from a set down to defeat Allie Gales 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4). Marceline Redick won the first set of the No. 5 singles match, 7-5, but had to hang on in the tiebreaker, 10-6.

Lauren Rasmussen won the first set at No. 1 singles, 6-3, and was edged in the tiebreaker to decide the match, 12-10.

Lauren Solano, Chrissy Gauss and Kelsi Inman won their matches in straight sets.

Albion won all three doubles matches by scores of 8-3.

Albion returns to the court in Hilton Head Island on Tuesday for a match against Wilkes (Pa.) University.
