Briton swimmers begin mid-season meet

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Rileigh Eding won the 50-yard freestyle and she was part of the 200 freestyle relay team that finished third as the Albion College women's swimming and diving team began its midseason meet on Friday.

Albion is in fourth place in a field of eight teams after the first day of competition in the Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational. Davenport University leads the team standings with 565 points. Birmingham Southern College (560) is second, John Carroll University (461) is third, followed by the Britons at 446.

Eding was a hundredth of a second off the Albion College record in the 50 freestyle when she completed her preliminary swim in 23.83 seconds. She achieved a winning time of 23.89 in the evening final.

Eding swam the anchor leg for the freestyle relay that set a time of 1:37.65. She was joined by Tia Ulieme, Nicole McCann and Allison Dasky.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
