Swimmers break out dance moves at Senior Center

By Mickala Signor, '23

A group of Albion College student-athletes gave a new meaning to fall break as they made a trip to Albion's Forks Senior Center. A total of seven Albion students went, including swimmers Emma Henninges, Elizabeth Cavataio, Amani Lopez-Dunlap, and Kurt Jolly.

"We all have had experience caring for elderly people and in general being around elderly people, so we thought this would be a lot of fun," Jolly said.

Jolly and his friends made sure the food table was stocked at all times and all drinks were cold. While also helping to provide umbrellas for protection from the rain as people traveled from their car to the door so that people did not slip or get their nice clothes wet. Followed by getting to drop it low, but not too low, with all the senior center attendees.

"We loved it. It was so fun to get to know some of the community members and hear their stories about how the community has changed throughout the years. Also, dancing with them was a riot...they have moves," Jolly said.

According to Jolly the group was very pleased with their visit and would love to do another visit. While also encouraging other Albion students to make the trip and experience the same joy as these Britons.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu.
