HOLLAND, Mich. – The excitement for the future of the Albion College women's swimming and diving team is building after a third place finish in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship.
Albion finished the meet with 681 points, trailing runner up Hope College by just 112 and champion Calvin College by 129.
More important than the team score, Head Coach Nick Stone believes the 200-yard freestyle relay team set a time (1:35.20) that will hold up to get the team in the NCAA Division III Championship in March. Individually, senior Anna Moore has set a time that should advance her in the 100 backstroke.
"It may be the first time Albion has sent a relay to the NCAA Championship," Head Coach Nick Stone said. "I'm super excited for that opportunity."
Albion earned four silver medals on Saturday – Anna Moore in the 200 backstroke, Kaitlind Hooper in the 200 breaststroke, Samantha Swingewood in the 200 butterfly and in the 400 freestyle relay (Hannah Erickson, Allison Dasky, Moore and Rileigh Eding).
Eding added a bronze medal in the 100 freestyle. That event was a scoring haul for the Britons with Erickson finishing fourth and Dasky coming in sixth.
Other Britons finishing in the top eight in their individual events on Saturday were:
- Courtney Swingewood: sixth in the 200 breaststroke
- Alex Horman: seventh in the 200 butterfly
- Emily Merucci: seventh in the 200 backstroke
- Mary Noble: fourth in the 200 butterfly, eighth in the 1,650 freestyle
