Hard work pays off for Briton women's swimmers

ALBION, Mich. – Katie Ferrero won the distance freestyle events and Anna Moore was part of first-place swims in three events as Albion College earned a 119-86 victory over Division II Hillsdale College in a women's swimming and diving dual meet.

The teams were separated by just a few points at the break in the meet, but Albion gained some separation when Samantha Swingewood and Alexandra Horman were the top two finishers in the 200-yard butterfly and Hannah Erickson and Allison Dasky were the top two finishers in the 100 freestyle.

Moore followed by winning the 200 backstroke and Ferrero did likewise in the 500 freestyle.

Albion started fast, with first place finishes in the 200 medley relay (Emily Merucci, Katy Henning, Tia Ulieme and Nicole McCann) and 1,000 freestyle (Ferrero).

Albion finished the meet with a first place finish in the200 freestyle relay (Allison Dasky, Ulieme, Moore and Erickson).

"The Britons showed how hard work pays off," Albion Head Coach Nick Stone said. "Swimming tired from the previous three weeks of training, a lot of the women are swimming close to if not beating previous in-season times; which I find impressive because of the tough adjustment to a new coach and training style. However, the most impressive part of the meet was how tough these women swam. A lot of tough races, and there was no sign of giving up. It speaks to the team's motivation and heart each team member has. We are set up for a great season, and I am excited to see how we do as the season progresses."
