ALBION WOMEN'S SOCCER 2021 SEASON PREVIEW

Even with a shortened spring schedule, the Albion College women's soccer team still put together a good year, advancing to the MIAA Semifinals. With a normal schedule set for fall, the Britons look to do some damage both in and out of the conference. Despite losing their leading scorer in Emily Brittain from a season ago, Albion returns a wealth of talent.

Head coach Eric Scott will lead the Brits for the ninth year. Scott saw three players earn All-MIAA accolades a season ago, and will build off plenty of talented youth on his roster. Albion will see a new face on the sidelines alongside Scott, as Darus Ward has been named the new assistant coach.

the returners

Midfielder Rayna Edwards will be the catalyst for the offense this season. Starting in 23 of 24 games during her career, Edwards has always been a threat offensively for the Britons. With five goals and five assists to her name already, Edwards will be a key player for Albion in her junior year.

Senior Lexi Taylor will add veteran experience to Scott's squad. Taylor has been a prime part of the Albion back third during her three seasons with the Brits. Starting all but one game over the last two seasons, the senior will be a leader on defense.

Only playing five games in a freshman year cut short due to COVID and an injury, Abby Rose will bring an offensive spark to Albion's final third. The sophomore looks to have a promising season and become a true weapon up front.

One of the fastest players in the MIAA is back to anchor the back row in Avery Campbell. The conference champion in the 200m dash, Campbell is a solid and reliable piece to Scott's defense. With the loss of center back Claire Stoddard to graduation, Campbell will step up in a big way for the Brits this season.

Junior McKenna Graham plays a huge role in the midfield. With plenty of experience, Graham gives the Britons a reliable option. Graham has started all 24 games of her career, and will look to bring her experience as a veteran to carry the midfield this season.

THE SCHEDULE

Kicking off the 2021 slate on Sep. 1, the Britons will play four matches on the road before returning to their home pitch. The season opens at Concordia Ann Arbor before Albion takes a weekend trip to Wisconsin to play MSOE and Carthage.

Albion's home opener is tentatively scheduled for Sep. 26 when the Britons host Mt. St. Joseph. Two days later, MIAA action commences as Albion plays host to Kalamazoo.

The entire month of October will be dedicated to conference play, as seven of the eight MIAA contests are on the docket for the month. Oct. 26's regular season finale at Adrian will be interesting, as the Britons prevailed over the Bulldogs, 1-0, in the MIAA Quarterfinals a season ago.
