Albion advances in MIAA Women's Soccer Tournament

ALBION, Mich. – Samantha LaRocca scored on a well struck ball midway through the first half and the Albion College defense (Megan Bricely, Alyssa Brooks, Mikenna Ray, Claire Stoddard, and Lexi Taylor) made it hold up on a chilly Saturday afternoon at the Davis Athletic Complex.

Albion defeated Olivet College, 1-0, to advance in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer Tournament. The Britons, 8-8-2 overall, have a 7 p.m. Wednesday date with MIAA regular season champion Hope College in the semifinal round of the tournament.

LaRocca, an all-MIAA first team pick, scored her ninth goal of the season in the 15th minute.

Alex Radzville, another Albion senior, directed another hard shot at Olivet goalkeeper Brooklyn Holley. Holley did not catch the ball cleanly, but she recovered in time to keep it from going over the goal line.

LaRocca and Radzville each placed two shots on goal. Clare Kelly, Haley Kennedy and Stoddard were also credited with shots on goal for Albion.

Albion's defense surrendered just two shots on goal. Samantha Torres and Maya Prewitt had the attempts for Olivet.
