Forward Samantha LaRocca, midfielder Riley Burnette, defenders Alyssa Brooks and Mikenna Ray and goalkeeper Megan Bricely represented Albion College on the all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's soccer team announced Friday by Sheila Morrigan, the league's director of media relations.
LaRocca, a senior from Clinton Township, Mich., who prepped at Regina High School, was a first team pick. She finished second in scoring with six goals and an assist in the eight MIAA contests. LaRocca was also credited with two game-winning goals.
Bricely, a senior from Troy, Mich., who prepped at Marian High School, Brooks, a senior from Howell, Mich., Burnette, a junior from Livonia, Mich., who prepped at Franklin High School, and Ray, a senior from Traverse City, Mich., who prepped at Traverse City West High School were all awarded second team status. They worked together as Albion allowed just 11 goals to MIAA rivals.
Burnette also chipped in on offense, dishing out an assist in the win over Trine University and scoring the goal as the Britons played to a 1-1 draw with Calvin College.
Brooks and Ray are four-year starters who have been among Albion's most consistent performers despite challenges throughout their careers. Brooks has changed positions in the defense, assuming the role as center defender this season. Ray is performing at a high level while coming back from an anterior cruciate ligament tear last season.
Bricely collected 43 saves while achieving a 1.08 goals against average.
