Women's Soccer celebrates senior day victory

ALBION, Mich. – Samantha LaRocca, a fifth-year senior, scored both goals as the Albion College women's soccer team celebrated senior day with a 2-0 result over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College.

LaRocca, whose 2016 season ended prematurely with a knee injury, now has eight goals on the season.

LaRocca sent a ground ball to the left post with 11 seconds left in the first for her first goal. Emily Wolford was credited with the assist.

LaRocca also scored three minutes into the second half off a pass from Emily Brittain.

Megan Bricely, one of seven Albon seniors recognized before the match, collected four saves to complete her fourth shutout of the season.

Briton seniors Alyssa Brooks, Sarah Castellano, Haley Kennedy, Alex Radzville, Mikenna Ray and Hunter Williams were also recognized before the match.

"It's always nice to win on senior day," Albion Head Coach Eric Scott said after his team improved to 7-6-1 overall and 4-1 against MIAA competition. "Olivet is an organized, hard-working opponent. Everyone played well, but especially Samantha and midfielder Riley Burnette."

Up next for Albion is a Tuesday date at Hope College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
