KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The rain picked up in the second half at MacKenzie Field Wednesday night, and so did the Kalamazoo College attack.
Limited to one shot on goal in the first half, the Hornets scored on three of their five attempts in the second half to earn a 3-1 victory over Albion College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's soccer match.
Samantha LaRocca generated most of the Albion offense in the first half. She placed four shots on goal, but most of those were from long distance.
Albion's back line played slowly at the start of the second half, and Kai Ketola pounced on a turnover in the 53rd minute for the first goal of the contest.
Amiee Hutton boosted the Kalamazoo lead to 2-0 in the 76th minute.
Albion managed to get within one when LaRocca buried a penalty kick in the 77th minute. She leads the Britons with six goals this season.
Kalamazoo responded quickly, however, getting a goal by Libby Munoz a minute later.
Albion tried to counter. A corner kick in the 82nd minute resulted in a Riley Burnette shot that clanged off the crossbar. Emily Brittain got her head on the rebound, but Kalamazoo goalkeeper Hannah Wolfe was up to the challenge.
Albion finished the night with a 11-7 edge in shots on goal.
Albion (6-6-1 overall and 3-1 against MIAA rivals) will pause to recognize the senior members of the team prior to its 11 a.m. Saturday kickoff against Olivet College on the Alumni Field inside the Davis Athletic Complex.
