Women's Soccer celebrates 2-0 start

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Albion College women's soccer team is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2014.

Riley Burnette and Samantha LaRocca scored second half goals to lift the Britons to a 2-0 victory over Coe College on Sunday.

"The group had a patient mentality and some of the veterans took the opportunity to lead the group well," Head Coach Eric Scott said about the comeback victory.

Joey Gilbert scored the Coe goal in the eighth minute.

Albion placed two shots on goal in the first half, but did not score.

With Mikenna Ray, Alyssa Brooks, Claire Stoddard and Lexi Taylor forming a solid back line in front of goalkeeper Megan Bricely, Coe only managed three shots on goal after Gilbert's strike.

Burnette accepted a long pass up the left side from Stoddard to score the equalizer in the 67th minute.

LaRocca produced the winning score when she deposited a penalty kick in the net with 3:18 left in regulation.

Albion returns home for a 5 p.m. Wednesday kickoff against Mount Saint Joseph University.
