Midfield lifts Albion to victory in women's soccer

PELLA, Iowa – Emily Brittain scored the only goal and goalkeeper Megan Bricely made some important saves as Albion College opened the women's soccer season with a 1-0 victory over Central College on Saturday.

Clare Kelley was credited with the assist on Brittain's goal in the ninth minute.

Bricely collected three saves to gain her sixth career shutout.

"Clare, Emily and Samantha LaRocca were dangerous for good chunks of the day," Albion Head Coach Eric Scott said. "I thought our midfield did a good job connecting the game.

"The conditions were tough with the heat and both teams battled through that," Scott said.

Albion finished the match with 20 shots, placing six on goal.

Albion will complete its Labor Day weekend trip to Iowa with a Sunday match at Coe College.
