NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Albion College trailed by five midway through the second half, and its furious rally fell just short in a 14-12 loss to Saint Mary's College in the match to decide the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse championship.
Marah Ranger scored her third goal of the night and Darcy Muns scored twice (also giving her three for the night) as Albion cut the deficit to 13-11 with 6 ½ minutes to play.
That was as close as Albion would get, however, as Kate Kelly scored her sixth goal of the night for Saint Mary's with four minutes left.
Carly Schwarz stuffed the box score for Albion with two goals, five assists and two groundballs.
Kate Mullins, Destiny Okon, Ariella Ruiz and Abby Sheklow also scored goals for the Britons.
Albion finished the regular season 12-4 overall and 7-1 against MIAA rivals. As the No. 2 seed in the MIAA Tournament, Albion will host a tournament semifinal match Wednesday night at 8 p.m.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
