Villabroza sharp in women's lacrosse win

ALBION, Mich. – Jenina Villabroza collected seven saves to shutout Adrian College in the second half as Albion College pulled away for a 14-3 victory in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse action at Alumni Field.

Chrystelle Lopez buried a free position shot and Destiny Okon scored an unassisted goal as Albion forged an 8-3 lead four minutes into the second half.

Lopez scored two more goals and she assisted on Kate Mullins' second goal of the half as it pulled away late.

Lopez finished the night with three goals and three assists. She stuffed the box score by scooping five groundballs, controlling two draws and causing a turnover.

Okon, who also scored three goals, controlled the draw seven times, scooped five groundballs and caused three turnovers.

Darcy Muns and Marah Ranger also scored twice for the Britons.

Villabroza was as sharp as she has been all season, stopping 11 of the 14 shots she faced.

Albion won its third in a row to improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 against MIAA rivals. The Britons will complete a three-game homestand with a 1 o'clock Saturday game against Calvin College.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
