Women's Lacrosse program celebrates academic success

The Albion College women's lacrosse program is celebrating the academic success it achieved during the 2017-2018 academic year.

The Britons were among the 339 schools across NCAA Divisions I, II and III and NAIA to qualify as an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad. To achieve the distinction, the team posted a 3.0 or higher grade point average for the academic year.

In addition, May graduates Jessica Mooney and Makenzie Smit and rising senior Jordan Church were among the 639 student-athletes to be named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll.

Smit, an accounting with C.P.A. emphasis and Spanish major, graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Mooney, a psychological science and kinesiology major with a human services concentration, graduated magna cum laude.

Church, an athletic training major, adds the academic award to the all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association second team award she secured at the end of the season.

In addition to the academic success, the Albion women's lacrosse team was successful on the field in 2018. The Britons finished 11-5 overall and second in the MIAA with a 7-1 record against league rivals during the regular season.
