Women's Lacrosse runs past Alma

ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College women's lacrosse team played like the Energizer bunny Wednesday night.

The Britons kept going and going, and in the end, they scored a 16-6 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College at the Davis Athletic Complex.

In the process, Coach Shanta Loecker earned her 50th victory at Albion.

Cait Gaitley scored four goals and dished out an assist in the first half to power Albion to a 9-3 lead at halftime.

Gaitley added a goal in the second half to give her 157 for her career. She has 174 career points, leaving her seven shy of passing Kadie Koolwick for fourth on Albion's all-time points list.

Abby Sheklow and Lauren Wiegand scored three goals each and Jade Barrett and Shannon Kahl chipped in with two goals each.

Albion's defense was impressive in holding its opponent to six goals or less for the sixth time this season. The Britons were credited with causing 15 turnovers. Taylor Nelson and Wiegand caused three each, while Barrett, Jessica Mooney and Sheklow all caused two.

Albion (7-4 overall and 3-1 against MIAA rivals) travels to Olivet College on Saturday for a contest that starts at noon.
