Women's Lacrosse falls in hard fought MIAA game

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cait Gaitley scored three times in the second half as Albion College tried to recover from seven goals down in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse contest at Calvin College on Saturday.

Despite cutting the gap to three on two occasions in the second half, Calvin hung on for a 14-10 victory over the Britons.

Albion forged a tie at 2-2 five minutes into the contest as Gaitley and Lauren Wiegand scored.

Calvin scored the next three, but Albion responded with goals from Gaitley and Wiegand to make it 5-4 with 12:45 left in the first half.

Calvin got players open in the middle of the field, and it scored the six goals. Kelly Pepper dished out four assists as Emma Verrett and Amanda Davio scored twice during the run.

Pepper finished the day with three goals and seven assists for the Knights. Grace Enfield added three goals.

Gaitley led Albion with five goals and two assists. Wiegand chipped in with four goals and an assist.

Albion (6-4 overall and 2-1 against MIAA rivals) has a home game Wednesday night against Alma College. The draw is scheduled for 7 p.m.
